Bought stainless steel top freezer model GTE21GSHHSS to replace an old top freezer/refrigerator, wanted an updated look and went with GE reliability and something to match our GE stove. Looks great but when the freezer fan turns on it sounds like a helicopter coming in from a distance, very loud. Also, icemaker is poorly designed. The plug is on the side wall and interferes with the ice tray, it does not sit against the side wall so some ice does not fall into the tray and ends up at the bottom of the freezer. Needless to say, we are disappointed.

Terrible refrigerator

The two adjustable shelves only have three positions, if the top shelf is adjusted to hold taller items, the middle shelf is only 3" high. There's no light in the freezer. The doors do not close unless you physically hold onto the handle. The hinges were replaced under warranty, and worked better for a few days, but then went back to not closing properly. And now the refrigerator door squeaks when opening and closing.

Disappointing modern fridge

Only owned 1 day. That said, the retrofitted ice maker seems to make tiny ice cubes, and not many of them. The default shelf configuration is disappointing. Don't know yet if I can adjust the shelving to make useful space. The vegetable drawers are so deep that they subtract useable shelf space from the rest of the fridge. Machine seems much less substantial than the 35-yr.-old Whirlpool it is replacing.

The product was installed less than a month ago, bought new from The Home Depot and it started to fail a week later, the sides being too hot to keep a hand on more than a few seconds. Now the freezer part doesn't make ice anymore and the fridge is barely at acceptable temperature to keep food safe. I'm very disappointed with that appliance and waiting for it to be repaired instead of having a brand new one delivered and the problem being investigated on the GE side.

It's a really nice looking refrigerator for sure and the freezer space is great. I wish the design was thought out better for the refrigerator shelving. It seems like the crisper drawers are too deep, taking away from more practical shelf spacing.

This fridge is the perfect size for a smaller home. I live in a thousand sq ft home and this fridge is compact enough that it fits well in the kitchen but large enough to have the extra storage space you want. It is very quiet which is also a must in a small home. The stainless steel is beautiful and it still lets magnets stick to it which some of the other brands dont do in this price range. Recommend to anybody with a small kitchen like me.

My previous GE kitchen appliances wore out (were in my Condo already when I purchased the condo in October - 2013. I am familiar and have had other GE appliances and know the quality / appearance. Freezer is too big & too low. Shelves cramped together. Light at top center of refrigerator takes up too much space. Difficulty in finding & placing large container of milk. Have to stoop over to reach items. Refrigerator goes on each time door is open. Only one control for both refrigerator & freezer.

Noisy!

New Build Not My Choice 2/7/2019

Two major issues with this fridge; it makes all kinds of really loud noises and it™€™s shelf configuration is really bad! It wheezes and rambles, don™€™t know if I have a bad motor on a brand new model or what. And as for clever design, this model really has no room where needed. If I make more room, enough to actually get bottles and jugs on top shelf, then I lose the entire middle shelf because of the drawers! It™€™s terrible.

SHOULD HAVE SEPARATE CONTROLS FOR FREEZER AND REFRIGERATOR, IT DOES NOT. THE SPACE BETWEEN SHELVES ARE PRESET SPACES. ALL THE REFRIGERATORS I LOOKED AT ARE PLASTIC JUNK. WOMEN SHOULD DESIGN PRODUCTS THAT ARE USED MOSTLY BY THEM EVERYDAY. I WAS HEART BROKEN WHEN I COULDN'T GET A RUBBER GASKET FOR MY 28 YEAR OLD REFRIGERATOR, I LOVED IT. IT WAS MADE SO WELL EVERYTHING IN IT WAS ADJUSTABLE, YOU COULD MOVE A SHELF UP 1" OR DOWN 3 INCHES.

I just purchased this fridge as it is the only one that will fit in the kitchen space. The fridge is very quite compared to my old fridge. I wish the cubic inch was a little bigger for the size but all in all a good fridge so far.

I have had my new refrigerator for 2 weeks there's so much room the 3 shelves on the door keeps things in order no more using the main refrigerator compartment .the veggie drawers are nice and deep the best for me is the size of the freezer I no longer have to fight to pack it with lots of room left.

Lots of space

It has been less than a month but this was a lifesaver. I am an 80 year old widow on a fixed income and this was resonably priced especially for how good it looks. I was upset when my old fridge expired after 16 years but this fits my space better giving me much more room than the last one. The unit chilled right up and in a few hours it was ready to go.
