I've read some reviews about this water heater with people having negative experiences getting th temperature set where they like it. In my experience with this water heater, once you set the temp, you have to wait a while for the temp to come to the new setting. I'm guessing the elements only kick on after the water falls below a certain temp, which can take between 3 to 24 hours. I've set the temp three times, from the factory set 120°F to 125°F, and then again from 125°F to 130°F, the backed it off a bit from 130°F. Each time the same thing, had to wait at least a day for the new adjustment to settle in. So, in short, it works well. So if you are considering purchasing this water heater, I have had no issues with the temp setting not working properly, only, as I just learned, electric water heaters can take anywhere between 3 to 24 hours to adjust to the new temp setting. Also, we upgraded from a 4500w to this 5500w, and it costs less to run. Instalation was a breeze.

I just replaced a 20+ year GE water heater. It still was working, but I figured that it would go out soon so I opted to replace it with this comparable model. I can only hope it lasts as long.

Required multiple service visits to get thermostat adjusted for 120 degrees. Days later the range of temperature is 110 to 126. Not what I thought would be for a good water heater.

Just bought a new home and the builder went with GE hot water heater. It does not heat water very well at all. It was set to 125 and only puts out 98 degrees. Turned up to 165, and is barely better than warm. This is the first GE product that is substandard. Recommend a different brand of water heater.

It was a direct replacement, size wise, for the earlier model we had. Did not heat water as hot as the older model. That may be due to factory setting being set lower than they did 10 years ago. Otherwise everything was fine.

The temperature on this heater is not stable. Sometimes we have to turn hot water on all the way and sometimes about half way. I would not purchase again.
